Japan Disaster Relief

Posted on 29 March 2011 by admin

In light of the tragedy facing Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami, and the impact that it is having on our industry, we are proud to announce that the Ron Tonkin Family of Dealerships is a leader, both locally and nationally, in the automotive industry’s Japan Relief efforts.

Ed Tonkin spearheaded the National Automobile Dealer Association’s efforts to donate $100,000 through the NADA Charitable Foundation.  Auto dealers, their employees and customers across the nation have followed suit with their own contributions.  The Ron Tonkin Family of Dealerships is proud to have personally contributed $7500 to the American Red Cross through this NADA effort.

Locally here in Portland, Brad Tonkin initiated, in conjunction with the Metro Portland New Car Dealers Association (MPNCDA), a campaign to match donations up to $50,000 on the local level, so that up to an additional $100,000 can go to assist Japan’s relief efforts.  Once again, The Ron Tonkin Family of Dealerships is proud to have personally contributed $7500, with an additional $7500 in matching contributions from MPNCDA, for a total of $15,000 going to Red Cross through this local effort.

This brings the combined Tonkin Corporate Japan Relief donation, with matching funds, to $22,500!

Tonkin customers, business partners, and employees are helping also.  Donations received from the public at any Ron Tonkin Dealership will be eligible for the MPNCDA dollar-for-dollar match until funds are exhausted.  Checks should be made payable to MPNCDA Charitable Foundation (reference Red Cross Japan Disaster Relief in the Memo field).

We hope you will consider contributing to this excellent cause.
